Soller – The quaint gem, tucked away in the centre of the island

The pilgrimage to Soller turned out to be a tourist-favourite and that excited me furthermore. The journey to this town was on an old-timey, windowless, rustic train that added to the charm of the journey. The ride through the Mallorcan country-side was adorable, with the train driver making a stop at a viewpoint for the travellers to click an aerial view of their destination. The charm of the entire setting was such that it distracted the passengers from the scorching heat.

Once there, the town lived up to the pictures and videos that have flooded instagram. Fountains, a cathedral, old roads and a plaza flooded with outdoor cafes for you to soak yourself in the environment. The sight of the tram carrying hoards of tourists through the narrow path available to it in the plaza is quite the aesthetic, with umbrella-covered tables flanked on either side. The trees in the town, as well as on the journey leading up to it, were full of oranges, lemons and other fruit, giving the greenery a splash of colour. The plaza seemed to be the perfect place for a glass of orange juice, something the area is famous for, and a hearty breakfast – one that was too voluminous for the both of us to do justice to.

With our bellies full and our bodies hydrated, we decided to walk through the narrow streets, take a couple of pictures and videos with the sight of the tram passing through the plaza with the goliath-like-cathedral overlooking us all. A couple of hours were enough however for the little town. After a gelato-stop, we decided to head back to the city for another joyous train ride through the countryside. There was a comical incident with a cicada giving the people in our carriage a jump-scare, but that certainly did not dampen the mood of the trip.
